Sarah Doherty was first introduced to the Pilates method in 1997 whilst studying at Laban, graduating in 2000 with a BA (hons) in Dance Theatre. She qualified to teach Matwork from the first Pilates Foundation matwork course at The Place in 2001, and completed her training in 2003 with Anne-Marie Zulkahari and Hana Jones, both of whom continue to be a strong influence in both her personal and professional practice.
Sarah ran a busy studio in Woodbridge, Suffolk between 2003 and 2008, closing it when she became a mother. She maintains a small private teaching practice and has been committed to developing a network of support for teachers in East Anglia; organising and hosting a series of workshops and mentoring various students and newly qualified teachers. Sarah has also assisted Anne Marie with her teacher training course at Pilates and Yoga Movement.
Sarah’s teaching focuses on grounding, lengthening and fluid movement. She enjoys working with a wide range of clients including those requiring rehabilitation from illness and injury.
Alongside her teaching experience, Sarah worked for the Council for Dance Education and Training for 2 years. She was a board member of the Pilates Foundation between 2007 and 2008 and continues to serve on the Pilates Foundation’s Education Branch as a member of the Teacher Training Committee.
